MIDTOWN25
Posted on August 31, 2010 · Leave a CommentAs we get closer and closer to fall we have to start getting all our last minute summer escapades in before it gets too cool to be considered summer (i.e. relaxing poolside). Okay, so laying poolside isn’t really considered an escapade, but you catch my drift. We have to finish up our summer fun! And what’s better than a block party?
The Alliance Theatre is co-hosting the Midtown Block Party along with the Midtown Alliance on September 4th for one and all to attend. Your ticket will include New Orleans-themed food selections, DJ Tabone will be spinning on the 1s and 2s, a ticket to that night’s performance of Twist, plenty of raffles for gift certificates to Midtown dining and retail and of course plenty more fun surprises. All of this for just $25 with the promo code MIDTOWN25.
That night’s presentation, Twist, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a twist on the Charles Dicken’s classic Oliver Twist set in New Orleans in 1928. Directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Debbie Allen, the musical is almost a guaranteed Tony winner. So, be there to say you witnessed the magic!
Be at the outdoor party at 6:00 p.m. at the corner of 15th and Peachtree in the Ats District Plaza before the show starts at 8:00 p.m. This will definitely be the best 25 bucks you’ve spent all summer long Parkside at Buckhead residents.

Posted on August 26, 2010 · Leave a CommentLooking for something to do this weekend, Parkside at Buckhead? How about go skydiving with a friend? Or maybe try some fugu (it’s poisonous blowfish that if prepared incorrectly can be lethal)? Okay, so you don’t want to be too adventurous this weekend, I get it! How about checking out some artwork tomorrow night? That’s fun and has no immediate danger associated with it.

AHS+Sweetwater+Piedmont Park=Pets in the Park
Posted on August 24, 2010 · Leave a CommentDog owners have lower blood pressure as well as cholesterol. They are also happier in general and live longer than non-dog owners. I guess I need to get a dog and ‘Thank You’ Brian S. of buzzle.com for making me feel insufficient. If you’re feeling the same way or have been contemplating the idea of getting a dog, this Saturday (and a couple following) is your lucky day(s)!
The Atlanta Humane Society and its mobile bus will be at Park Tavern (500 10th St.) serving up perfect, cuddly cats and dogs. No, it’s not a food truck rather a pet adoption center on wheels. Brought to you by AHS, Sweetwater Brewery and Piedmont Park, Pets in the Park will have a presence at Piedmont the next 3 weekends.
For everyone that decides to come out and spend some time with the animals, there will be a small prize given–two FREE passes to any Saturday Sweetwater Brewery Tour. And if you take one of ‘my precious‘ home you’ll get a special prize and you’ll have a new addition to the family.
If you’re interested be at the Park any time from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays: August 28th, September 4th and September 11th. Parkside at Buckhead, it’s only a 10 minute drive from home!

Try These On For Size
Posted on August 22, 2010 · Leave a CommentLet’s be honest here, we all have had horrible days at work and maybe even a worse week! Are there ever days that you just want to leave your job, come home to Parkside at Buckhead and never return to that job again? Well…before you do anything that rash (especially in this economy) try these tips on for size:
- Learn to manage your emotions, instead of letting them control you - The more you allow your emotions get to you, the easier it is to make rash decisions. Count to 10 or take a page out of Bad Boys 2 and “woosah.“
- Resist micromanaging (of yourself and others) - The more you micromanage the more stress you’ll put on yourself. Have trust in your ability as well as your “team.”
- Take regular breaks - Get up and walk around a bit! If you sit at a desk all day, you need to get your blood flowing. Do this especially in a stressful situation. It works!
- Try getting to work 10-15 minutes early - Getting to work early gives you a chance to settle in for the day without being “on the clock.” Be sure to get your priorities in order and then go talk to you co-workers a bit (well, at least the ones you like).
- Don’t overdo the caffeine – Take it from me, caffeine can be a bad thing. It can cause anxiety and you definitely don’t want that when your already at work! Try something different: green tea–it has a bit of caffeine and it’s really good for you.
I hope these tips work for you! Tweak them a bit if you have to! Anything that can help you de-stress the situation.

P’cheen is a Must
Posted on August 20, 2010 · Leave a CommentLooking for a laid back, chill spot in Atlanta? And a good deal at the same time? I’ve got your place my friends! P’cheen in the Upper Highlands is the place to be everyday. One of my good friends, who I met through work, introduced me to their happy hour a couple years ago and I’ve been showing up unannounced ever since!
Like I said earlier, they have something happening every day of the week, so you never have to feel like your missing out on something if you can’t make it on say, Wednesday. Just show up on Friday and you’re good! Mondays are all about Mike’s BBQ, Classic 80s hip hop on Tuesday, Wednesdays are made for reggae while Thursdays are for trip hop. Now the weekend is another beast in itself; funk, soul and dance classics on Fridays, Saturday the owner gets on the 1s & 2s himself (turntables) and Sunday is all about Fresh Gresh.
And let’s not forget about their unforgettable food. According to the owners, “Think paella, think curry, think jerk and think chipotle – you’re almost there.” It’s a respectable fusion of pretty much any and everything international. So, liberate your palette before stepping foot into P’cheen. And if you do attempt this place be sure and get The Green Half deal.
You can get a $35 certificate to P’cheen for just 15 bucks! You save $20. If you were ever skeptical about P’cheen, this should erase all skepticism and rather easily at that. Give them a try; they might change your life.
Plus, it’s not that far from Parkside at Buckhead. Just a 15 minute drive. See you there?

As You Like It
Posted on August 10, 2010 · Leave a CommentSince I saw Hamlet on Broadway last October I’ve been wanting to catch another one of Shakespeare’s classics done right. Because Jude Law did an amazing job and I only expect that caliber acting from now on! Not really. I’ve never been a huge Shakespeare fan, I mean, the film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes is my favorite adaptation of anything Shakespeare. Is that pitiful?
I think I’ll take in one of Shakespeare’s Tavern’s plays this month. They’re having an August Threepeat featuring three of Shakespeare’s more jovial plays–The Taming of the Shrew, As You Like It and A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Shakespeare’s Tavern is an awesome place to catch a play on the fly and the actors are superb (almost Jude Law stature).
Think you might want to check out one or maybe all three of the shows? The preview night of each play is only $12, but seating is first-come, first-served, which means get there early! Check out the dates and times:
- The Taming of the Shrew: Preview on Thursday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m. Performances on August 15, 21, 27 & September 4.
- As You Like It: Preview on Friday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. Performances on August 14, 22, 29 & September 2.
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Preview on Thursday, August 19, at 7:30 p.m. Performances on August 20, 26, 28 & September 3, 5, 9, 10, 11.
Trust me, if you’ve never been you’ll enjoy it. Especially with these three comedies. Any of you at Parkside at Buckhead plan on attending a show? It’s only 15 minutes away!

Is Atlanta the New Hollywood?
Posted on July 30, 2010 · Leave a CommentIt seems like Atlanta is becoming eye candy for movie productions. For example, “The Blind Side,” “Zombieland” and the upcoming movie “Get Low” have been recording clips throughout the area.
And what about television programs? BET has made its mark here with “The Monique Show,” at Turner Studios. Then, you have “The Vampire Diaries,” that’s aired on the CW. Then on top of that, Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva” has taken the limelight in this area.
Other shows, like Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Brown” and “House of Payne,” and Alton Brown’s “Good Eats” (Food Network) are veteran shows filmed in Atlanta.
So Atlanta seems to be catching up with Hollywood, don’t you think?
What’s your favorite show/movie that’s been taped in Atlanta?
